Director Biography – José Luis Solís Olivares
Film and theater director, screenwriter, and cultural promoter, alongside his academic development in the areas of humanities. He obtained a Master of Fine Arts at Tulane University and post graduate studies on digital filmmaking at University of California at Berkeley. His experience as film director and screenwriter have led him to develop and present his works in Australia, Alaska, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Bangladesh, Belize, Bogotá, Boston, Buenos Aires, Cartagena, Wales, Germany, Greece, Huesca, Huelva, India, Korea, Lisbon, Lyon, Madrid, Miami, Montreal, Moscow, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Saint Petersburg, Pakistan, Panama, Portugal, Rome, Toronto, Trinidad and Tobago, Switzerland, Salvador, Ukraine, as well as in the main cities of Mexico. He was awarded with numerous grants and fellows on artistic development included The National Endowment of the Arts of Mexico in three different periods. His first professional short “Tomorrow, I will” was an official selection at Montreal, Los Angeles, Huelva, Cartagena, Monterrey, San Antonio, and Puebla. In the summer of 2015, he wrote and directed his first feature film “Gringo”, the production was awarded with the State of Nuevo Leon Award for Best Screenplay and participated in more than 25 film festivals obtaining 5 international awards.

Académico y artista interdisciplinario que se ha desarrollado como escritor, guionista, director teatral y cinematográfico. Tiene estudios de posgrado en dirección y dramaturgia en Tulane University y postdoctorales en cine digital en University of California at Berkeley. Acreedor de numerosas becas de desarrollo artístico a nivel nacional e internacional, presentando su trabajo como guionista y director cinematográfico en Alemania, Australia, Alaska, Los Ángeles, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Cartagena, Gales, Grecia, Huesca, Huelva, Korea, Indonesia, Lisboa, Lyon, Madrid, Miami, Montreal, Moscú, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, San Petersburgo, Pakistán, Panamá, Roma, Toronto, Trinidad y Tobago, Suiza, Salvador y Ucrania, así como en las principales ciudades de México. Su primer cortometraje profesional como guionista y director “MAÑANA, Sí” fue selección oficial de los festivales internacionales de Montreal, Los Ángeles, Huelva, Cartagena, San Antonio, Monterrey y Puebla, actualmente es miembro del Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte de México en el área de guion cinematográfico. En 2016 estrenó su opera prima cinematográfica como guionista y director: “Gringo”, la producción obtiene 5 premios internacionales, además de presentarse en más de 30 festivales.
