On her first day of school, Sofia – a Brazilian teenager who has recently arrived in London – is bullied by a group of British students. Homesick and alienated from the world around her, she meets Lauren, a British-Nigerian teenager who shows her Sun Rah, a world entirely of her own making in a nearby park, where they make their home together.

Director Biography – Bárbara Bárcia

Bárbara Bárcia is a film director, producer, and co-founder of FLUXA Filmes, a Brazilian production company focused on female narratives and teams mainly composed of women. She directed and produced projects such as the TV series “#OFuturoéFeminino” (The Future is Female), filmed in Iceland, Pakistan, and Brazil. The documentary series was awarded at the 2020 New York Festivals TV & Film Awards and was a finalist for the Brazilian Cinema Grand Prix and ABRA Screenplay Awards. Between 2020 and 2021, Bárbara co-directed a special episode about women on the front lines of the pandemic, available at Globoplay, the Globo Group streaming platform. In 2022, she obtained her Master’s Degree in Film Directing at the MetFilm School, in London, funded by the Chevening program, a UK scholarship for global leaders. The short film “Home” (2023) is her debut as a fiction director. Recently, Bárbara was invited to be part of a Netflix initiative for new directors in the entertainment business in Brazil; She directed the 58 minutes documentary “O Futuro é Feminino” for GNT.doc, filmed with different feminist activists in Japan and Rwanda; and she directed a campaign about women in Cinema for Telecine TV Channel. The film was exhibited in more than 200 cinema rooms all over the country. Bárbara has a Journalism degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), with an extension course in Theatre from Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris III (France). She has 10 years of experience in the film industry and is currently developing her first feature film.
