Director Biography – Dimitris Tzetzas

Dimitris Tzetzas is a film director and creative artist devoted to the art of visual storytelling and the cinematic form, often striving to explore contradicting, immoral, anti-heroic characters and their respective immoral, primitive and unforgiving worlds.

He studied filmmaking in San Francisco at the Academy of Art between 2003 and 2007, directing shorts and dissecting the mysteries of the local experimental filmmaking scene who’s celluloid culture and unorthodox artistic methods left an imprint on him.

After graduation he switched worlds and moved to Los Angeles where he worked as an assistant editor at Jerry Bruckheimer Films. He has worked and learned under many Academy Award winning and nominated film editors such as Michael Kahn, Mark Goldblatt, David Brenner, Bud Smith and William Goldenberg. Since 2012 he has directed music and advertising videos for musicians and leading industry clients in Greece.

In 2015 his directorial feature debut “The Republic” premiered at the Athens International Film Festival. An indie revenge flick about a photographer left for dead after spying on a human trafficking ring involving a prominent businessman, the movie addressed with an unapologetic, saturated and humorous tone many of the pathogenies of 21st century Athenian politics. Packed with an outstanding ensemble of Greek actors, the film opened to mixed reviews estranging many with its Americanized and Asian-exploitation influenced depiction of Greek reality, however, it gained an underground following and impressed many with its stylish craftsmanship, humor and violent outbursts.

Living and working between Athens, Greece and Los Angeles, California, Dimitris is currently writing the script of his sophomore feature while also directing music and corporate videos. On the side he enjoys to shoot analogue photography and to teach the craftsmanship of film editing the way he learned it from some of Hollywood’s most legendary motion
