Director Biography – Rachel Clarke

Rachel Clarke belongs to the artists’ collective Storytelling Arena, based in Berlin. Born in Scotland, she studied languages and literature in Edinburgh and theatre directing in Germany. Learning about interactive theatre in Brazil, she practiced this with teams in Europe. Working for 5 years in a development aid project in SE Asia, she learned about sustainability, social (in)justice and the negative impact of colonial legacies and global trade policies, by witnessing the experiences of villagers, as they created and toured theatre plays in the mountains and valleys.
She ran multiple live theatre projects for human rights, before becoming a writer and poet, and turning to filmmaking.
