It is an 10-minute short film, directed by Oskar Metsavaht – artist, designer, and UNESCO Ambassador for a Culture of Peace and Sustainability – about conscious consumption of products (fish) from the maritime ecosystem. This alert can be in many places since it is a global emergency, but it will be set in Rio de Janeiro, one of the most famous cities in the world, and with one of the oldest artisanal fishing colonies in Brazil – ‘Colônia de Pescadores Z-13’. As the character to reflect on this issue, a young “caiçara”, who are the traditional inhabitants of the coast of the southeastern and southern regions of Brazil, who have, in their culture, mainly artisanal subsistence fishing.

Oskar Metsavaht

Born in 1961, Caxias do Sul, Brazil. He lives and works between Rio de Janeiro and New
York.

• Designer, filmmaker, artist, environmental activist, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for culture of peace and sustainability.
• As an artist, designer and activist, Oskar’s work expresses the theme of preserving the forest, water and the empowerment and protection of the peoples of the forest. A multidisciplinary creator who moves between different areas and recognized as a visionary for defending and applying social and environmental practices since the times these causes and values were not yet in vogue.
• Founder and Creative Director of Osklen, Brazilian fashion brand, recognized as one of the forerunners of the New Luxury concept that strives for the fusion between ethics and aesthetics and advocates conscious fashion committed to the ‘ASAP philosophy | as sustainable as possible, as soon as possible’.
• Founder and President of Instituto-E, NGO that applies concepts and practices of ‘Sustainable Design Thinking’.• He produced several video installations, art films and short movies.
• His filmmaker and art work consists on several videoinstallations, such as: 2014 ‘In California’, 2014; ‘Interfaces I − Man // Art // Nature’; 2016 ‘Divina Geometria’ | ‘Ascenção’ and ‘Benedictio’; 2018 ‘Psychedelia Synthesis’; 2019 ‘Manifesto Amazônico I – Garimpo’ and 5 films directed by Metsavaht: ‘Surfing the Mountains’; Interfaces II – Ashaninka; ASAP – As Sustainable As Possible, As Soon As Possible; Respire Comigo – Lygia Clark, among others.
• He won the Eco Sustainable Film Category at the Chicago Fashion Film Festival in 2018 with his movie ‘ASAP – As sustainable as possible, as soon as possible’, also selected at the LA Fashion Film Festival and shown at the Milano Fashion Film Festival.
• Oskar in 2019 was juri member of the Fashion Film Festival Milano, speaker at the panel: What sustainability means today for the world of fashion and presented the première of the documentary ‘ASAP, as sustainable as possible, as soon as possible’
• In 2022 in ‘Red Quimera’ short movie, Oskar shares the direction Thiago Soares, the most internationally awarded Brazilian dancer and choreographer, who was a star of the Royal Ballet in London for more than one of each. A Brazilian short film, in an unprecedented format, without dialogues and with its entire story told through dance, launched in Cannes Festival 2022 side selection.
