Director Biography – İlkay Nişancı
Born in 1976 in Ereğli, İlkay Nişancı completed his primary and high school education here and entered the Radio-TV and Cinema Department of the Faculty of Communication at Istanbul University, and then completed his master’s degree in Journalism and his doctorate in the Radio-Tv and Cinema Department of the same faculty.
Throughout his education, Nişancı reinforced his theoretical knowledge with practical knowledge and worked as a director, cinematographer and editor in many short fiction and documentary films. After joining the faculty of the Faculty of Communication, Nişancı taught film directing, cinematography and editing courses in the Department of Cinema and also conducted the faculty’s cinema workshops. In the meantime, the films he made with his students were shown especially in international documentary film festivals and were awarded with various awards.
In addition to his academic studies, Nişancı has also collaborated with the film and television sector and has appeared as a director and editor in various documentary and fiction films, music videos, commercials and TV programs. In addition to these, Nişancı, who has a close relationship with music, has designed music especially for TV documentaries since he was a student. He continues his professional music life actively and has signed two music albums as a songwriter, composer and solo guitarist in the rock band ELA.
İlkay Nişancı continues his academic life as an assistant professor at Istanbul University, Faculty of Communication.
