“How Did You Learn Spanish?” is a video essay that uses cyanotypes created from digital photos taken by the filmmaker between 2006 and 2008. She unpacks her own discomfort with her initial exposure to the Spanish language and reflects specifically on a trip to visit the US / Mexico border in Tijuana when she was nineteen.

Director Biography – Claire Kinnen

Claire Kinnen is a video artist, editor, and producer. She enjoys using different mediums in her creative work; layering different forms to create a sort of visual diary. She is from the North Country, New York State’s rural frontier along the Canadian border and lives in Queens, New York City.
