This is the story of Javid Karezi who belongs to the sixth generation of a famous family of singers in Afghanistan. He was a successful singer when the Taliban took control of Afghanistan on August 15, 2021. Immediately after coming to power, the Taliban banned all kinds of music in the country, and as a result, Javid was forced to migrate along with his family to Quetta, Pakistan, where he stayed for eight months. Due to the language barrier and limited opportunities to work as a singer, he could not support his family and returned to Kabul. Forced to live without music under the Taliban and in a financial crisis, he suffers from depression.

Director Biography – Rani Wahidi, Wahid Khan

Rani Wahidi is an Afghan national residing in the Quetta City of Pakistan, her status in the country is as a refugee, migrated to Pakistan at the age of 10 at the time the Taliban first took control of Afghanistan in 1996, Rani has never been to school or college in her whole life, she studies privately, and did her graduation in Economics and sociology, he got interested in documentary making at a very early age, for the first time in her life, she took admission in Balochistan university, and got her master’s degree in media and studies as a regular student.

Rani Wahidi is a Correspondent of DW Urdu in Baluchistan, Pakistan for the last two years, covering social issues, including women and minorities, and refugee issues in Baluchistan, most of her beats include women, education, migration, minorities and human rights.

Working as a documentary filmmaker for the last 9 years, so far she has produced and directed over 100 documentaries on different topics on a variety of topics including, education, health, SRHR, Sanitation, climate change, refugees etc. The following are some of the documentaries she produced as a director;

• “The Failed Migration” for Voice of America” shooting span for six months, covering two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

• BABUL: on Services rendered by Mr Sheeraz Khan during COVID-19 for the community.

• Yes We Can( a documentary film on the topic of women’s achievements)
• Parwan (a documentary film on the topic of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights SRHR )
• Beating plastic pollution, a documentary on Plastic pollution.
• Helping people to help themselves( a documentary film on the topic of social mobilization)
• Gonnai (Feature documentary film on the topic of Afghan garbage pickers in Pakistan)
• EHTRAM on the subject of sexual harassment in public places which is the one-second price in Izhar by the film festival.
