Digital Accessibility

Accessibility

The International Migration & Environmental Film Festival (IMEFF) is committed to providing an inclusive and barrier-free virtual festival experience for all filmmakers, audiences, and cultural participants.

Our Commitment

As a not-for-profit virtual festival examining human movement and environmental transformation, IMEFF believes universal access is fundamental to equitable cultural dialogue. We actively work to maintain our digital platforms and screening spaces in compliance with recognized web accessibility standards so everyone can engage with our program.

Conformance Standard

We strive to adhere to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA conformance. These guidelines define best practices for making web content accessible to individuals with a broad spectrum of visual, auditory, cognitive, and motor disabilities.

WCAG 2.1 Level AA Target

Continuous review of colour contrast, semantic typography, and keyboard accessibility.

Screening Captions & Subtitles

Official selections provide English closed captions or subtitles for spoken dialogue.

Accessibility Measures in Place

  • High-contrast text and semantic heading hierarchies across all festival pages.
  • Visible focus indicators and logical tab order for keyboard-only visitors.
  • Alternative text descriptions for key documentary stills and festival collateral.
  • Clear audio playback controls and closed caption tracks on streaming previews.

Known Limitations

While we make every effort to ensure all festival assets are fully accessible, some legacy materials and external systems may present limitations:

Archival Films & Submissions: Select retrospective festival entries and historical film archives may lack closed caption files or audio description tracks supplied by original rights holders.

Third-Party Screening Players: Certain embedded video player controls on external streaming infrastructure may not yet fully support personalized keyboard shortcuts.

Feedback and Reporting Issues

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of the IMEFF website and virtual festival platform. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, require alternative file formats, or need assistance accessing a screening:
